Apple is reportedly working on improving Siri’s natural language understanding and generation capabilities with the help of AI. In the beta version of tvOS 16.4, Apple activated a new technology codenamed « Bobcat » for the « natural language generation of Siri. » While the test is currently only available on Apple TV, evidence in the code suggests that these features may also be coming to iPhone, iPad, Mac, and HomePod. Currently, Siri relies on pre-established models to respond to requests, which has led to issues of engineering and upgrade, causing Siri to lag behind other voice assistants such as Google Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa. However, with more advanced AI capabilities, Siri could catch up and improve its natural language understanding and generation abilities. Despite reports of internal testing, it is unclear when these upgrades will become available to the general public.
